Apache Chautauqua Coaching

Every week we go and meet with the students in Mrs. Bradshaw's class.  Each one of us got teamed up with two or three students from the classroom.  As a Coach my responsibility is to help my students create their chitauqua stories.  It has been a really fun, and I have learned a lot from it.

Today was the first day that I was matched up with my students.  I got a girl and a boy.  The boy is very active and talkative, the girl is really quiet.  Today was like an icebreaker I had to introduce myself and I had to get to know them better.  I started asking them about their stories and who they would like to be.  The boy said he would like to be his white mouse, and the girl decided she wants to be her older sister.

Today was a very scary day; it was time for the coaches to present their Chautauqua stories.  I was scared and excited at the same time.  I decided to be my three year old son.  After doing my story, it was really fun and I felt proud of myself.

Emiliano My three year old son

Hello my name is Emiliano and I am 3 years old.  My mom goes to school and works as well (she has to work to get money to make me a birthday party).  I want my birthday party to be of motorcycles, and I hope to get an ATV for my birthday.

I really like to wear my cowboy boots and my cowboy hat.  If it were for me I would wear them everyday, but my mom says that I can only wear them when we go to parties.  Today I brought you my cowboy hat so you could see it.  Isn't this really nice.  I love wearing  it!

I love horses and I love to run them.  People think they can't run fast, but they run faster than any other horses.  I have four horses, but today I only brought one with me.  This is Estrella which means star in english.  She really runs fast, very very very fast.  Estrella is my favorite horse, I really like him because he is the fastest of all.  You wan't to know another little secret?  Estrella talks, she really does!  My mom does not believe me, but let tell what she want to tell you.  Estrella is saying that she really loves being here with all of you, and she thinks you are all very nice.

Goodbye I have to go and run with Estrella so she can keep on being really good at running.

Today the girl was absent, and I was able to work with the boy a bit more.  He decided that he did not want to be his mouse anymore and now he was going to be his cat Bruce.  We got into his story and made a lot of progress he is a great child.

Today the girl was back and we had a lot more connection than the previous weeks.  We talked a lot about what was going on in her family and she also made a great improvement in her story.  On my boy's story we did a little bit of touch up in it, but I worked more on the girl's story.  She was gone one day so we had to make up for it.  At the end of the class we had really good stories going on.

Today Bain and Dessaundra grouped up with Sarah's students to do their peer workshops.  This was a really nice experience because the children gave a lot of feed back.  This totally helped Bain and Dessaundra, and according to Sarah it really helped her children too.  Some of them didn't even have a story and they were able to make one with their peers help.

Today we went over our notes we had from the writing workshop from the previous week.  Bain and Dessaundra went over their stories and added the extra detail that they needed.  I told them I would not see them for three weeks because of spring break and testing, but that they needed to practice their stories.

Hooray I got to see my students again.  They had not done a lot over the break, but we were able to practice during this time.  I had them act their stories in front of me.  For Bain this was really easy, but for Dessaundra this was really hard because she is really shy.  We kept on working on it and they had really good stories.

Today we recorded the childrens stories.  Bain was there, but Dessaundra was absent.  Bain got to record his story and he did a great job.  Hopefully Dessaundra will be able to record her story during the week with Francis.

Today is the Performance Day!  Our students get to tell their stories in front of their families.  All of their hard work will pay off.  I am really sad because I will not be able to be there.  I made sure to get them a Thank You gift for participating and helping me out through this semester.  They were great and I got to learn a lot of new things.
